LARGE NUMBER WOUNDED.
London', Jan, 24. During the trial of \V. O'Brien atCarrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, on a charge of using inflammatory language at Ballynele in September la^t, the prisoner escaped from tho open Court, the crowd covering his flight. A riot ensued, and a fight between the police and populace lasted Home hours. The former repeatedly charged tho mob, using their batons first, and afterwards, when they found t'-eir efforts repulsed, having recourse to bayonets. Twenty of the rioters received stabs of a serious nature anil scores of others were more or less wounded. A dozen policemen were badly injured by stones. A somewhat similar scene took place at Clonakilty, County Cork, during the trial of a priest. Thirteen policemen were injured by stones and bottles. In three instances the injuries are dangerous, and in one other fatal. Thirty of the populace were injured.
