WOOL SALES.

Dalgetty and Company's wool circular dated London, April 29, referring to the sales then juat closed, says thvt "fine washed fleece wools generally met with but very little demand." It appears that there were only two or three buyers for this description of wool, and they were not very eager, and consequently a fair proportion of the quantity offered had to be withdrawn. This class of wool, adds the circular, seems every year to meet with more limited enquiry, except for a few extra-super bales, which ara indispensable for specialities, and often make a long price. At the same time, the buyers of these superior bales can be easily counted on the fingers of one hand, while it is a remarkable fact that the very same wool sent to market in the grease would elicit three times the same amount of competition. Referring to tho state of trade, the circular considers it surprising that the sales should have closed as firmly as they did. The report from manufacturing districts both in England and on the Continent showed much dullness, but stocks of raw material are moderate and had to be replenished to keep the mills going. On the whole the wool trade appears in a fairly sound position and in the absence of disquieting political incidents, Messrs JUalgety think present values should be maintained, although they doubt, if there is much chance of any improvement in prices, at any rate, bo long as supplies are on the scale they arc likely to be for tho next fow mouths, and, they add, it should not bo forgotten, that the present average is f ullyf 2s per cent, over what was obtainable this time last year.
