THE BANKRUPT LESLIE.

It seems that only one Gisborne creditor has yet proved in the estate of this bankrupc, but probably all creditors will prove when they learn that there is to be a dividend of 03 in the £. Leslie tiled this statement :—" Debts £242, the principal creditors being : G. Humphries, £.'JO ; E. Wilaon-Durot, £20 ; J. Townley (Gisborne), £10 ; C. Gamble, £13 ; Gear Meat Co., £lo ; A. T. Bothamlcy, £'.) ; W. Ferguson, £7 ; Wellington Gas Co., £7 ; and H. Fielder, £7. Assets £b"5, being : Judgment in the case of Leslie v. Chrisp and Muir, £45 ; and 40 pieces of silver plate, £20." The creditors mot in Wellington on Friday. Gully, tor the bankrupt, ssiid ho had been in difficulties for a longtime, never having been able to retrievo tho debts incurred when he waa for a long time out of employment. Some timo a^o he obtained an appointment in Gisborne which ho had every reason to think w.is a permanent one, but which proved to be only of a temporary character. On the grounds that it would bo permanent he launched out into curtain exponso for household parposos, and tho sudden termination of tho employment lefb him an increase of embarrassment to that extent. Ho was prepared to [jay out of hii salary of £1U per month so as to make up a dividend of a reasonable amount, Replying to a question, the bankrupt said he did not consider himself justified in making an offer of more than £2 per month. He expected next session to receive a permanent appointment as Committee reporter at £150 per annum, and if he secured it he would set aside £50 a year for the benefit of his creditors. Mr G. Humphries asked whether it was true that the debtor expected £1000 from Home. Leslie said knew nothing about any money from Home. Mr A. W. Brown and Mr F. Sidey expressed their willingness to accept 58 in the £'. Mr Leslie said he did not sco how he could pay that amount. Mr Gully advised the debtor to try and pay 5s in the £. On the motion of Sidey seconded by Humphries, it waa resolved to recommend tho granting of tho debtor's discharge on condition that he pays a composition of 5s in the £. It ia probable that Chrisp and Muir will not prosecute the appeal.
