THE BARRIER MURDER.
PETITION TO REPRIEVE. BOTH PRISONERS FULLY CONFESS Auckland, to-day. The delay in the Barrier murder verdict is said to be due to the obstinacy of one of the jurymen who contended that they ought not to hang two men for one murder, and proposed to draw lots. The prisoners have been depressed since sentence was passed. It is expected the execution will take place on February 14. Later. It is Btated that a requisition is being numerously signed for presentation to the Governor praying that the recommendation to mercy by the jury in the Great Barrier murder case may be given effect to. It is rumored that Caffrey and Perm have made a full confession. Later. The reported confession of Caffrey and Perm is quite correct. Perm says he fired the last shot, which proved fatal. Caffrey confesses that he tired at Taylor and believes he lodged the bullet in his body. Mr Weston, the gaoler, has telegraphed, the statement to the Minister of Justice. It is not expected that the petition in Caffrey's favor will have any effect. Wellington, to-day. The Minister of Justice refuses to give any information respecting the confession of the Barrier murderers.
