AUSTRALIAN SUMMARY.
Sydney. The reception of Beach here was most enthusiastic, and the assembled crowd was enormous. The champion Wits carried from the boat to the landing place to a carriage and driven to Government House, where he was received by the Governor and Lady Carrington, and was afterwards presented with an address at tho Town Hall, where speeches were made by Sir Patrick Jennings and Mr Dalley. Owing to the pressure of legai business it is contemplated to appoint two' additional judges. Mr M. H. Stephen is appointed temporarily. In the lands fraud case the jury were unable to agree, and were discharged. The Colonial Secretary informed a deputation that the Government has no power to interfere with the Sunday concerts in the Gaiety Theatre. Nothing is yet known of what will be the ultimate fate of the condemned men in the Mount Rennie outrage, but efforts are already being made in their favor. It is rumored that seven or eighr, new appointments will be made to the Legislative Council in order to secure the passing of the Tax Bills next session. Three or four resignations from the Assembly will probably take place. Melbourne. A serious railway accident occurred yesterday on the north eastern line at Glenrowan. As a mob of bullocks were being driven across the line a special train came up and ran into them. A large number were killed and two men injured.
