FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
£10,000 DAMAGE. Auckland, to-day. An extensive fire occurred at Newton his morning. The damage is estimated it £10,000. It originated in a four-roomed iouso occupied by James Follorton, aborer, Upper Queen-St., at 4 a.m. and pread to the three houses adjoining, and iltivnately the hi<>h wind blow the burn ng fragments on to the roof of St. Beneiict's Roman Catholic Church, a large vooden building, which was totally de3royed with the exception of some benches md the image of the Virgin. From here lie fire spread to the old Newton Presbye.rian Church on the opposite sido of jriadstone-St., which was recently pui jhiised by the Catholics as a Sunday School. Phis \v.\3 totally destroyed with Kve oth<=i Iwelliug houses before the flames wore subdued. It is believed that all the auildings are insured, but particulars have iot been ascertained.
