LONDON, Jan. 29. The New Zealand Loan Agents in London publish a notice in to-night' 3 London Gazette to pay off the four and a half per cent five-thirties (nearly three millions) on the Ist of August. Holders are to have the option of receiving of four per cent stock 101 instead of cash for each 100. A shipment of over 200,000 salmon ova has been sent by the lonic to New Zealand. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £13,000,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 43 per cent. At the colonial wool auctions yesterday 12,200 bales were offered, and at to-day's sales 9,800 bales were submitted. The market is quieter but steady. Argus London telegrams state : — The Manchester Guardian approves of the proposed separation of Queensland into two districts. — The Chronicle states that Mr Henniker Heaton, M.P., late of Sydney, will shortly be knighted for his colonial services, but the statement is not generally credited. MELBOURNE, To-day. The Hon Duncan Gillies, addressing a public meeting at Echuca last night, stated that no definite policy could be submitted and he had not yet made any overtures for & re-formation of the Ministry. The Captain of the steamer Afghan has been fined £100 for his connection with the fraudulent naturalisation papers held by the Chinese passengers on the vessel. SYDNEY, To-day. The Legislative Assembly met yesterday afternoon and adjourned until Thursday next awaiting the Treasurer's Financial Statement. New Zealand wheat and oats show an improvement in value since last week's report. New Zealand wheat 3s 7d per bushel ; oats, 2s 5d ; maize, 4a 3d per sGlbs. ______ INVERCARGILL, To-day. The Sylvan Bank Hotel at East Invercargill was burned down this morning. It was occupied by ,T. Weston, cab proprietor, but merely as a residence, the Licensing Committee having refused to renew the license on the ground that it was not required. The inmates lost a good many of their effects. The insurances are £250 on the building in the Colonial and £400 on the furniture and effects in the Fire Insurance Association.
