CRICKET MATCHES.
Melbourne, this day. The cricket match between the English team and the Combined Eleven of Australia was resumed on Saturday, when the latter continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 279. The highest scorers were — Trimble (Victoria), caught, 59, and A. N. Jarvis (South Australia), caught, 82.- Being 122 behind their opponents, the Australians followed on, and at the close of the day's play had lost two wickets for 66. The match was resumed to-day. Chbistchubch, this day. A cricket match Canterbury v. Auckland was commenced on Saturday in fine weather. Auckland went in first and were all disposed of for 92. Canterbury then went in, and when stumps were drawn for the day had lost one wicket for 107 runs. The match was resumed today.
