PARLIAMENTARY.

[By Telegraph.]

[from our own correspondent.]

Wellington, This Day. The House met yesterday at 2.30. Being private members day, business was of little public importance. Amongst the second readings, there were the Counties Amendment Bill ; Width of Roads and Streets Bill ; and Sir George Grey's Bill for the prevention of corrupt practices. Mr. Hall said, with respect to the last mentioned Bill ; that though he would not oppose it, he did not think it neccessary, but m committee he would move certain amendments.

Nearly the whole of the evening sitting was occupied, with Mr. Ballance's Bill, respecting the Wangauui endowed school, the trustees of which have perverted the funds from the purpose for which it was endowed — that of educating poor and orphan children ; and made it a sort of high school, charging about £35 per head for educating children m it. The object of the Bill is to compel a return to the original purpose of the school. The Bill was fought out m committee word for word, and the fight was continued until the House rose at 1 o'clock this morning, progress having been reported. It is understood that Mr. Macandrew will move a vote of want of confidence to-night on going into committee of supply. The debate will probably be prolonged till a late period of next week, m the hopes of something turning up to give the opposition a majority. As matters stand at present there is no chance of the motion being carried. Morgan was examined yesterday before the Native Affairs Committee m the case against Sutton. His evidence was quite contrary to that given by previous 'witnesses. He swore that Noinoi signed the deed respecting the land purchased by Sutton ; but the deed itself bears a mark and not a signature.
