June 8. A large open air meeting was held today in favor of the commutation of the sentence of the criminals condemned to death for rape. A good deal of agitation prevails on tke subject. Mr. Butler, formerly AttorneyGeneral for New South Wales, died suddenly in Court to-day. _ It is rumored that the Newcastle collieries are likely to abandon the vend scehme.
