BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held j in the Council Chamber last evening. Present : The Mayor, Crs. Walker, Morgan, Townley, Adair, Page, and Clayton. Minutes read, and letters which had passed out of the office since last meeting. Letters read from the Chairman of the Poverty Bay . Highway Board, claiming £51 3s 4d from the Council. — Referred to Finance Committee. From Mr A. Bromfield, re state of streets at Borough boundaries. Resolved — That the Engineer take the levels from Nesbott-road culvert to the drain at Gray-street, with a view to compel proprietors of land through which the, drain may pass to open up such drain according to specification of Engineer ; and that the Engineer prepare estimates for four box culve'tß, one for each of the following streets, namely, Custom-bouse Street, Lowo-street, Peelstreer,, and Bright-street. Letter from Mr E. K. Brown, drawing attention to water lying in front of hiß shop. The Clerk was instructed to inferm Mr Brown that the Council intended shortly to form the street. A petition was presented by Councillor Walker, from residents in the 40 feet road between Roebuck and Herbert roads, asking for a drain to be dug. The Engineer was authorised to at-, tend to the request of the petition, Several small accounts were passed for payment. Thr following tenders were opened for repairs to Breastwork : — A. T. Ross £43 A. Ledger ... ... 41 . J. Williams .... ... 31 — A the latter tender was accepted. The Town Clerk was instructed to write again for a set of scales and stamps for the Council.
