, This Day. " Mr. Singleton Rochfort, solicitor, has sent a letter to the Herald proprietors stating that the conviction and sentence to six month's imprisonment, took away the breath of the public. He adds that Major Oroker threatens an action for £5000 for the comments in the Herald on the case. The proprietors have instructed their lawyers to defend any action that may be brought against them. ' , •' ■ ; Mr. J. L. Byers, the celebrated actor, who was missing for three days, was found last night on the Tararu track, having lost his way. Mrs Churton died yesterday, after a brief illness, at her residence in P&rnell. She was 78 years old, and was widow of the late Rev. J. F. Churton, L.L.D., and first minister of St. Paul's Cathedral Church, to whose memory a monument was erected. She leaves a large family of children . and . grand-chilcu'-iii.
