HOME GUARD
. PATEA BATTALION E XENSi VE MANOEUVRES Extensive manoeuvres were earnedout during' the week-end. Members of the Home Guard, well over 200, paiuded in the morning and marched to the rifle range, where fluid manoeuvres were carried out by.companies. Every guardsman on parade was instructed in musketry and carried out a practice on the range with ball ammunition. An Interested visitor was Major Haddow, D.C.M. who very kindly gave the different units the bnefit of his knowledge of field tactics, which was very greatly appreciated. After the battalion had marched back to the domain, Battalion Commander- Simmons congratulated the men on, their bearing, and said it was very heartening to the officers who were giving so much of their time to the organisation. Major Haddow also spoke briefly congratulating the battalion on the progress it had made and expressed the hope that it would continue to carry on the good work.
