CRICKET

PATEA V. OLD BOYS. Arriving in Hawera with, nine men, Paten were n'ot in the best of positions, but owing to the fine effort of P. Bourke and Gibbs were able to defeat Old Boys by 301 runs. Bourke 74 and Gibbs (57 not. out were the highest .J jrers and .Bourke’is innings was chunceless. He also took a wonderful low catch at silly mid on and took three wickets for 8 runs. The total runs of Bourke and Gibbs Adas 141 out of a total of Bid. Winn Gibbs joined Bourke three wickets were down for 22 runs, but with aggressive batting they carried the score to 142 before Bourke was caught by W. Barker behind the Avickets. The only other partnership was a hist wic-k:4 stand by Gibbs and Malone, the latter being an Old Collegians player last yoar. He held his wicket while Gibbs put on *.‘>4 runs, Malone himself hitting a four,, but in. the last ball of Herbert’s over ho was bowled. High School on- the local Domain on Saturday by 27 runs in the -first innings, thanks largely to the, bowling of Zimmerman and Maule, the former taking 4 wickets for 5 runs and tho latter 3 for 12, Signal also taking 1 wicket for 1 run.
