JOKE OXT.B, CROWD. Mir. Archie Compstun, while motoring just outside Boston recently, was intrigued by a notice, “Fifty drives for 50 rents. ” He pulled up am! paid liis 50 cents., suggesting the while that, h:e did not know which was the business end of a driver. A crowd .gathered for some fun with the big boyish-looking English,man. Conipston’s first drive went on to the 251) yards’ target, and fail after ball reached the same mark. There were twenty-two tees working when Conipston arrived, but within a minute every aspiring golfer had left his tee to watch him. Each drive evoked a. louder cheer until the 5(1 balls were exhausted. But the crowd wuiild not let Conipston go. When they heard he was a British Ryder Cup player, they mobbed him and insisted that lie sliouJd take ration after ration of balls and drive them off. they playing the tolls, lie was there driving away until close on midnigh,t.
