MISHAP AT WANGANUI

Steamer Ashore An unfortunate mishap occurred at Castlceliff yesterday (reports the “Chronicle"). The overseas steamer Cyrcne, laden with benzine, for Wanganui, grounded on a sand shoal, some 300 yards outside the moles. It was exepeted that she would be refloated on the night tide, and that damage would be occasioned.

The Cyrcne did not get clear, as was expected, but, unluckily, was caught by a strong current, and grounded 300 or 400 yards to the north of the north mole.

At midnight it was reported that the vessel was making water in all holds, and that the Union Company’s tug, Terawhiti, was expected to leave 'Wellington at daybreak this morning.
