SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A PUBLICAN.

Arrested for Causing the Death of His Wife. Aik'klaxd, Juno 2. Mrs Elizabeth Carroll, wife of William Carroll, licensee of the Masonic Hotel, Cambridge, died during the night. It is alleged she had been suffering from injuries received in an assault made upon her by her husband on the loth Mav.

An inquest will ho held to-morrow. Carroll’s whereabouts arc at present unknown, but the police have been instructed to arrest him.
