THE POLICE FORCE.
Wellington, Oct. ID. The Premier made a Ministerial state merit this afternoon to the effect that he had laid the whole matter of the complaints re the police force before the new Commissioner, Mr Tunbridge, and that the latter recommended a full inquiry be held. The Government will therefore appoint a Royal Commission of Avhom the new Commissioner will be one member, and an experienced Stipendiary Magis trate another. The Premier would not say whether there would be a third member, In this matter the Premier’s baud has been clearly forced by the members of bis own party and the ‘ Left Wing.’ Mr Taylor (Christchurch) would have moved for a Royal Commission this afternoon had not Mr Seddou anticipated him in his announcement —Special to Chronicle.
