THE HAWERA FIRE INQUIRY.

The inquiry into the oi'igiu of the late fat. 1 fire finished today, after five da} s’ sitting. Lengthy evidence was taken. The following verdict was returned: — “We find (hat the fire originated in or rear the Hijh-sireet window in Smith’s draper shop ; and the evidence is not sufficiently clear to show how it originated. Campbell was not prompt chough at the outbreak in trying’ to suppress the fire or give the alarm.” A rider was added that if Campbell had given his c\ .'donee more fully the inquiry would have been finished earlier and more satisfactorily.
