BLOWING UP THE WRECK OF THE THURSO.

Captain Falanes, of the Torpedo Corps fired at noon to-day the mines which ho laid round the wreck of the Thurso.

Great difficulty was experienced owing to the large quantity of drift gravel brought down by recent floods and deposited on and around the barque. In all 2000l|ij,of explosives were used, consisting of dynamite, roburite and guncotton. The blast was most successful, (he derelict being cleared away as far as the mainmast, which was the portion that lay in the fairway. The bow will require a few small changes to clear, but so far as can bo judged at present, the explosion was a pronounced success.
