FIRE ON AN ORIENT LINER.

Melbourne, August 11,

The fire on the steamer Orient is assuming a serious aspect. The bunker where the outbreak occurred is leaking, and is unable to hold sufficient water to quench the fire. It is feared the walls of the bunker will crack, and let the fire spread beyond control. Later. The fire on the Orient was soon sfibduad after the door between the water tight compartments which had been left open and allowed the water to escape, was closed by a diver. Most of the cargo in the forehold was destroyed, and the internal fittings of the vessel much damaged.
