FOOTBALL.
(By Drop-kick.) To-day is the opening day of the football season in Patea, and passing, dribbling, drop-kicking and place kicking competitions between members of the club are lo be decided on the Domain Ground this afternoon. A great deal of interest lids already been displayed by a number of intending competitors in the events and practice has been assiduously indulged in both by the town and country members, so that a pleasant and instructive exhibition of the -scientific portion of the game of football is doubtless iu store for those spectators who visit the Domain this afternoon. The ground is in capital order, and everything points to a successful opening. lam informed that most of the country members have signified their intention of being present to take part in the different competitions, and some exceedingly close contests are anticipated. The Taranaki Herald says :—“ The Star and Tukapa football clubs have decided to open the season by holding a combined fancy drees football match iu the Recreation Grounds on Thursday, 25th inst., and to finish up with a social in the evening.” Patea footballers, just note the way outside chibs “ put a finish ” on their opening day, and then compare with yourselves.
