THE STRIKE IN BERLIN.
Lkhi.tn, May 17. Emperor "William has advised a deputation from the colliery proprietors, who waited upon him, to keep a close touch (?) of workmen, and to use every effort to provide for their ■welfare. It is probable that a compromise will bo arranged, ou the basis of eight hours’ labour with increased wages. The proprietors of one of the collieries at Westphalia refuse to consider tho tonus offered by the sHikers, and it is believed that this refusal will endanger tho terms of the compromise which were offered ou the eight hours’ system with regard to au increase of wages.
