INTERPROVINCIAL. (PKR PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, This day. Government have received a comtmmif' cation from the Cable Company asking them jointly with New South Wales to continue the subsidy to the cable between Australia and New Zealand for a further period of ten years. The New Zealand Government have expressed strong inclination to discontinue the subsidy, and .consider as the line is now finished those using it should be made to pay, They are, however, in communication with the Sydney Government on the question. The Victorian Government have asked the Government of New Zealand to reduce ■the charges on cables along New Zealand land lines to 6d per 10 words, but the Commissioner of Telegraphs has declined to accede to the request. The Government have decided to grant a passage by steamer to the delegate of the Napier Chamber of Commerce who is proceeding to Samoa to repoit on the requirements as to opening trade with Samoa and the other neighbouring islands. Sir J. Vogel is also communicating with the Chambers at Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington, offering similar concessions in each case. The offer is conditionally that the reports of the delegates are not to be considered of a confidential nature, and must be published op their retprn.
