WANGANUI AUTUMN MEETING. Straight Tip* .. ;> , [By Musket.] The Autumn Meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club takes place to-morrow and Friday, and' as considerable local interest isjevinced in the principal events, I can scarcely-allow it to pass without making a few comments on the horses engaged, and tipping for same, so I take this, the only, opportunity of making them. I will first take .the Derby, . for which five have “ dubbed upthe final payment. For this race Fay appears favourite' in the betting, but ip my opinion Parvenu will be the winner, for when l observe fhe victory achieved by (his horse in the Flying Handicap at the f ;Manawatu Races on Boxing Day, and with much better company, he surely can hold; his own in this race. However, I expect them to finish as follows :—Parvenu,.Fay, Fusileer. And. for the Hurdles Maccaroni, Jim, Scrutineer.

Wanganui Cup, which claims,;l2 acceptors, of which Armourer is my selection. This horse is never more at home than when traversing the Wanganui course,"and with Holmes in. the saddle should show the rest his heels at the finish. Ahua will doubtless push him hard for it, but I think the game son of Tubal Cain will be too good, for him; however, he should secure second honours, with Bayard at his girths. The Sapling Stakes should bo |a gift to Alpine Rose, with Goth close up. The Nursery Handicap claims the same acceptors as the Sapling Stakes, therefore the one tip should serve for the two races. For the. Selling Race Tally-ho, would appear to have a good say, but as he is at times unruly on the course and cannot be relied upon, I have ho alternative but to select Diisk for first place, with Tally-ho second. ' \

“ Flaneur,” in the Wanganui Herald , gives the following tips for the. coming events on Thursday and Friday next: —

The time has once more come round for me to attempt the task of making another successful forecast'of (he chief events to be decided on the Wanganui course on Thursday and Friday next, and I feel more diffidence in trying to do so than on any previous occasion. The , ball opens on Thursday next with the Derby, for Which Fay, Titokowaru, Fusileer, Parvenu, and Stilleto have paid up. Of these I shall select the following three to finish as under—Fay, Fusileer, Parvenu,

Next we have the Welter Hurdle Race, for which The Druid, Jim, True Blue, Maccaroni, Scrutineer, and Caoutchouc are entered, and of these I like, in the. order named—Jim, Maccaroni, Scrutineer*. Then follows the Sapling Stakes, for which Strenuous, Regret, Pakeha, Bonny Blink, Goth, Alpine Rose, and Ruapehu, are figured on the card. Of these I litre’ as named—Alpine Rose, Strenuous, Bonny Blink,

The Wanganui Stakes Handicap comes next, for which eleven of the eighteen nominated have accepted, but of these Tigredia, Forerunner, and Tim Whiffler will bo absentees, leaving, in Leonora 9st‘ 41b, Fusileer Bst 71b, Armourer 7st lllb, Bayard 7st 111b, Sir Bedevere 7st 81b, Clogs 7st 81b, Ringleader 7st, and Awatea 6st. To reduce them to three, I shall select Sir Bedevere, Clogs, Bayard. . I shall not attempt to tip, the Maiden Hurdles, for which I think,. ho wever; : . either Rambler or Pathfinder will furnish TTj tT w 1 mlerr “ ” ” T. '” v ” ‘

The day’s sport will conclude with the Flying Stakes Handicap, for which twelve have accepted of the 24 nominated. Of those left in, I like in thq, order named— Speculation, Buzzard, Laurel, with Last Chance as a saver.

The second day’s programme opens with the Selling Race, which I .think will fall to either Dusk or Tallv-ho.

As the weights for : the Handicap Hurdles will not be declared until after the first day’s racing, I must pass it by and go on to the Cup and right here is where I am in a quandary, as I am in : the dark as to what horses will go to the post on the first day and how they will shape, but as I must make the plunge, I shall vote for Leonora, Bayard, Speculation, with either Buzzard or Clogs to upset the pot. The starters will, I think, be Leonora, Bst 131b (Clifford); Fusilier, 7st 131b (Sutherland); Speculation, 7st 81b (McCormick) ; . Sir Bedevere, 7st 41b (Stowers) ; Clogs, 7st 31b (Redwood) ; Bayard, 7st 21b (Wood); Buzzard, 7st (Williams) ; Laurel, Gat 101b (Smith) ; Ahua, 6st 61b (Scott). For the District Handicap I like Ringleader, Parvenu, Last Chance, in the order given.
