HAWERA.
BRANCH OFFICE OF TUB MAIL,
Monday Evening.
A concert in aid of the Hawera Hospital takes place to-morrow (Tuesday evening) at the Town Hall. The programme is a good one and should attract a large audience.
Another medico in the person of Dr Alexander has cast his lot amongst us. Whilst at all times glad to welcome new comers, the public sincerely wish that there will not be sufficient “ trade ” to support these two gentlemen in their profession ; but unluckily of late there has been rather an overdose of sickness.
The proposal of the Royal Commission that there should be a separate Laud Board for this Comity is received with much favour here. It is a matter that wc have agitated for some years past with no results.
Mr Bartlett, late of the Opunaki Hotel, arrived in town yesterday with his family. He intends to make this his future home. Ploughing is going on in a much more extensive manner than in previous years. Mr Caverhill is putting a large area in grain. No doubt the presence of a mill has stimulated farming operations.
