RAILWAY CONTRACTS.

A contract.has. been let for two small bridges over creeks, and for two brick culverts over gullies, l on the Carlyle branch railway, between the main lino and the river. All this work is included in one tender, and the successful tenderer is Mr Harris, of Wanganui, whose price was the lowest, . There were six tenders, as follow: —■

The work of levelling the two short lengths of permanent way, already let, is progressing with tolerable speed. About a dozen men have been at work since Wednesday on these two contracts. Two. or three short, lengths remain .to be tendered for up’to'the junction with the main line, and we believe the whole ground has been surveyed for tendering. , MAIN LINE. Probably some portion of the main line"new: the Patea river will be apportioned in contract sections, and announced for tendering, within two or three weeks; but this expectation may prove to be hi advance of the fact. The money being voted, why should not the main line be pushed on at several points ?
