The Dunedin School Committee have recommended the adoption of Richard* son’s Temperance books in their schools Puotection to Fau.m kuk.—A meeting of representati res of the Farmers Unions has been held in Victoria, relative to feeding with grains. A large portion of the meeting came prepared to discuss the question of Free Trade v. Protection, but the chairman declined to go into the question from that aspect, and those opposed to import duties left amid groans. The following day a deputation interviewed the Colonial Treasurer. Mr Service said the question la}’ between the farmers and the cabmen, the import duty serving the latter and oppressing the former. He denounced the whole artificial sjstcm of keeping up high prices. He said the deputation asked his assistance in a wrong direction, and he could not help them.
