A Navy Department communique says that Catalinas and Flying Fortresses on January 4, executed a series of air attacks on the Munda area, and on the same evening divebombers, escorted by fighters, bombed anti-aircraft positions, taxiways and runways in the same area but tlie results are not yet. reported. All oi our planes returned. Our troops on Guadalcanal attacked and gained high ground positions m the vicinity of Mount Austen, capturing an enemy field piece, while six enemy counter-attacks were repulsed and 150 Japanese wer© killed. Patrols in othr sectors killed 20 additional Japanese and captured howitzers and light, machine-guns, and mortars.
