INCREASED PAY TO SOLDIERS

CANADIAN DECISION Canada is making a Christmas present to lier soldiers. A private’s pay is increased from 1 dollar 30 cents to 1 dollar 40 cents a day after four months service with efficiency and good conduct. After fix months service it is to be 1 dollar 50 cents a day. Th© cost of living bonus on the same basis as that for civilian workers is extended to servicemen’s families. The basic seal© of allowances for dependent mothers of servicemen is increased from 20 dollars to 25 dollars a month. Mothers and other dependent relatives are allowed to earn up to 40 dollars a month

without loss of their allowance. The present earning limit is 20 dollars. An allowance is to bo provided for as many as six children. Hitherto allowances were granted only for four children of servicemen and for two children of officers. Canada’s rate ol dependents’ allowances now is the highest in the world.
