WORLD'S CHAMPION TEA DRINKERS
NEW ZEALANDERS’ REPUTATION Our soldiers overseas maintain the New Zealander's reputation as the world’s most noted tea drinkers. Brigadier Falconer told the Dunedin Rotary Club that on one occasion, for good reasons, New Zealand troops in the Middle East were being moved under conditions which demanded that the badges indicating that they wore New r Zealanders should not be visible. In spite of the removal of the distinguishing badges it was noticed that the identity oi the troops seemed to be easily recognised, and the explanation offered was that at every stop the primus stove was immediately produced and tea brewed. Th© initiative of the New Zealand soldier was indicated by the fact that even when there was no time to stop to eat ho still had a hot ration—his pork and beans had been beating alongside the lorry engine en route.
