A REVIEW OF THE WAR NEWS Further successes by the Russians are recorded in today’s cables and it is indeed heartening to find the Red Army now actually back over the Ukrainian borders. The Soviet forces continue to smash their way on through the German lines and in the Middle Don the result is said to be almost a rout of the enemy forces there. The Japanese resistance in the New Guinea theatre of war continues to be amazingly formidable and the Allies can to date sense no signs of a collapse. Both sides are busily concentrating strength in Tunisia where Allied patrols have contacted the enemy whose numbers in Southern Tunisia appear to be small. Both sides have a full appreciation of the implications of a victory There is certainly no surfeit of definite news regarding hostilities elsewhere but what information is available is cheering.
