U S. DE FACTO RECOGNITION
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph -—Copyright NEW YORK, September 23. The “Herald-Tribune” says that the State Department within a few days will announce the sending of a mission to the Do Gaulle Government in West Africa. This docs not constitute recognition of General de Gaulle’s regime but it is a de facto recognition of the local administrative unit in West Africa where General de Gaulle has the jurisdiction. Air R. E. Pleven, General de Gaulle’s Director of Foreign Affairs, who is now in New York, said that General de Gaulle was anxious to win American recognition and thereby become eligible for lease-lend aid. AT. Pleven added that he did not advocate America, breaking off relations with Vichy.
