CHILD BURNT WITH CAUSTIC SODA
TRIED TO PUT IT IN HIS MOUTH Another painful mishap with caustic soda occurred this week, this time most regrettably, to the infant son of Mr and Mrs Harold Baillie, of Eketahuna. The child’s mother had returned the tin of caustic to the cupboard and intending to use it did not clamp the lid down. The little chap seized it and conveyed a handful to his lips, then, on the quick, agonising pain, brushed his hands over his face. His mother carried him quickly to a neighbour’s where there was a telephone and Dr. Simmers was quickly on the scene. It is now known that the caustic did not enter the child's mouth, but his face was in a. woeful state and it was fully an hour and a half before his screams abated. He is now progressing favourably.
