STATEMENT PROMISED
NATIONAL PARTY POLICY SIR ALFRED RANSOM S ADDRESS. That the- policy ol the National Party would lot* put beiore the ueople toon alter the new Parfca*M notary session had concluded, was statement made by Sir Allred Ransom member lor Pahiatua, in an address at Woodville last nij^ht. The meeting, which was attended by about 300, over whom the Mayor, Mr. R. R. Johnston, presided, was a 'comparatively quiet one, there being very few interjections. A peculiar position arose at the close of the meeting, when Mr. Stewart Mclntosh moved a vote of thanks to the speaker and confidence in him and in the National Party, adding that he would he pleased to see the end of the guaranteed prices, as last year the farmers had received 2d less pier lb than the price on the Loudon market. The motion was seconded bv Mr. A. Beattie, but before it could tie put Mr Hunt, president ol the \\ oodville branch of the Labour Party, moved as an amendment a vote of t banks only to the speaker. Haviug been seconded, the amendment was put to the meeting and lost on the voices, although the volume ot voices tor and against seemed fairly even. \\ hen, however, the motion was put there was an overwhelming majority in favour of it, dispelling any doubt as to the feeling of the meeting on the question. Sir Alfred’s address followed the lines of previous speakers. However, he strongly criticised the Prime Minister's recent speech at Daunevirke, making special reference to Mr. Savage’s claim that the Labour Government was carrying out the ideals of the Sermon on the Mount. Ihe lact that Mr. Savage had quoted from the Scriptures on that occasion was commented on bv the speaker, who declared that 19 members ot Parliament had not acknowledged the Bible insofar as to take the Oath of Allegiance on it.
