The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 1933. HELPING THE SCHOOL.

The audited statement of accounts cl the Fahjatua District High School Committee as placed before Monday night’s meeting, reveal a most satisfactory position. This has been made possible only by a particularly careful watch on outgoings on the part of the chairman (Mr G. Godfrey Taylor, who we learn with regret does not intend to seek re-election for the next term,) and the loyal cooperation and individual efforts of the committee. It seems remarkable that the interest displayed by the parents in Pahiatua is inversely proportional to the funds the committee have in hand. Perhaps a little reckless spending on the latter’s part .would diminish their finances and force the parents to display some interest in the institution which educates their children? The present committee includes some men who no longer have children attending school and yet they turn up regularly to meetings and carry out other duties during the month. The appeal made by the chairman for increased attendance at the householders meeting on Monday. May 2nd deserves consideration by all parents who have a moral obligation to be present in order to elect a new committee The action of the committee in setting aside £SO to be the nucleus of a fund to establish a reference library at the school is to be commended. It shows vision and understanding of modern educational requirements and will stand as a lasting tribute to their careful policy which- alone made such a magnificent donation, possible \Yc tTiist that future committees will pursue a. similar policy and continue to give assistance to the library fund, whmh will undoubtedly bring n rich blessing to the children who will glean knowledge from the valuable books thus made available.
