ECHO OF GENERAL ELECTIONS. Electric Telegraph—Press Association WAIPUKURAU, August 26. Mr T. C. A. Hislop Leader of the Democrat Party at the 1935 General Elections was sued by the Waipukuraii Borough Council, represented by Mr A. M. Whitts at to-day’s sitting of the Waipukurau Magistrate’s Court, before Mr J. Miller. S.M The amount sued for was the rental of the Waipukurau Municipal Theatre. which »t wa,s alleged way engaged by Mr Hislop for a meeting which he conducted there during the election campaign The hail was hooked for Mr Hislop by the Waipukurau Democrat candidate Mr W. L. Barker. The Magistrate, therefore, disagreed with the contention that Mr Hislop was responsible, saying that Mr Barker should he sued. Mr White agreed to take this course and the case was adjourned until October. Mr White stated that Mr Barker had seen Mr Smart, the town-clerk, and had hooked the theatre for Mr Hislop, asking that the account; should he sent direct to Mr Hislop. Mr Barker had left tin* district, and the council did not know where he was to he found.
