FATAL CAR SMASH.
ACCIDENT NEAR PALMERSTON. Electric Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N.. August 25. A Bumxythdrpe farmer named John Thomas met his death under tragic circumstances early last. even. trig, when'the car he was ’driving crashed through the approach to the bridge across the Mangaone stream oil Milson line, and somersaulted into the bed of the stream 25 feet below. Mr Thomas was travelling into Palmerston North when the accident happened. the time being shortly after 6 p.m. Tie crashed into the structure which, despite the thickness of. the planking, failed to stop the progress of the car. A few feet the other side of the fence the stream bank drops perpendicularly for 25 feet The impact must have caused the car to somersault for it was discovered facing the way it had come and lying on its side, with the bodywork hopelessly smashed.
