OBITUARY.
MRS BESSIE ORR. The death this week of Mrs Bessie Orr. at Palmei ston North, removes a well-known former resident -of the district The late Mrs Orr was born in Ulster Ireland, in 1859, and came to Lyttelton., New Zealand, in the sailing ship “Lady Jocelyn’’ as a girl. After marrying the late Mr William Orr. they took up farming at Temuka South Canterbury ultimately coming to the North Island to settle at Konini on a. rougn bush farm. Mrs Orr and her husband went through all the vicisfcitudes of pioneering in the Forty Mile Bush being the first farmers to make cheese in the district. Later they acquired another bush property at Tane. Mangaonc- Valley, and finally took over the wcllknown Platform Farm near Grrytown. On this property Mrs Orr and her husband were notable farmer-', and in 1920 * they retired from farming to live near Grey town, Mrs Orr more recently being a resident of Palmerston North. For many years Mrs Orr took an active part in the work of th? Presbyterian Church, and .the dec-eased lady was highly esteemed for her * kindly and thoughtful nature by a Avide circle of friends. She i s survived by three daughters Mrs .\ M. Siiisled North), Mrs H. Ernest fWTinkatnne). Mrs B. Young (Auckland), and four sons. Messrs W. .1. Orr (Whakatane), T. Orr f Wood v* Hr) Alex Orr (Palmerston North), and H. F\ Orr (Abiaruhe.
