PROTECTION OF MAGPIES
The magpie is regarded as a friend by the farmer. Mr G. G. Warren, retiring president of the North Canterbury district of the Farmers' Union, sponsored a remit at the annual conference expressing strong opposition to the removal of protection ot magpies, except where they interfered with native bird life. They served a very useful purpose in keeping the small bird pest down to very small proportions, he added. The remit was carried.
