MONTHLY MEETING. THE PERIOD’S WORKINGS. At Eketahuna, yesterday morning, members ol the Tararua Electric* Power Board met tor their monthly meeting The secretary-manager read his report as follows : During the month the sum of £l3O 15s Id was paid to electrical contractors, who undertook and completed installation work in this district - he gross sales of electricity during March were £343 in excess of the same month last year. For the year now closed the gross sales of electricity show an advance on last year’s figures of £2 321. The purchases of electricity hav'e advanced from £6,577 to £7,067 Mr D. Fraser, electrical engineer, reported as follows : Connected load.—The connected load has been increased this month as follows ;—Eketahuna Borough, light 240; heat 5,900, power nil. total 6,140; Eketahuna. country, 2,760, 46.546. .746 50.052; Pahiatua Borough. .360. 16.150, .621, 17.131; Pahiatua country. 1.380, 17.100, 4.476 22.956. Total: Light 4.740, heat 85,696, power 5,843, total 96,279. Transformers new.—A total of four new transformers, 1/50 k v.a and 3/7.5 k.v.a., have been dried out and painted ready for service. Three of these have been fitted with additional brackets for h.t. lead supports. The portable sub-station for use in connection with the county crusher was com filet ed during the month. Service and repairs.—Five transformers have been overhauled and new brackets fitted in order to suit the present pole mounting lay-out

Extensions.—The Atea extension was completed and put into service on 25 '3/37. On the Pori-Makuri exten si on good progress has been maintained, and the sniggiug erection cf poles, cables, etc., is well in hand Power was made available to the Makuri village and to Rutherford's on 2/4 37. This section has proved the most difficult and has taken most of the month to .complete.

General.—The maintenance staff has been engaged in assisting the line gang at Makuri and Pori. Ail poles between Brown's hill and Mr Parke Nelson’s home have been rerammed where necessary. The Eketahuna County crusher plant was thoroughly overhauled, and the defective transformer house was replaced by an open portable type. Power was off in the north aiea between 3.27 a. m. and 3.29 a.m on the 6 3 37. due to a fire at Mangatajnoka burning down the 11,000-volt feeder to the sub-station, and temporary repairs necessitated cutting off this section only, until 5 a.m. On Sunday, 14/3/37, a shut-down from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., enabled permanent repairs to be made to this section, and the short braces on the cross-arms from Makuri corner to the Maiigatainolra sub-station were rewith longer ones in compliance the P.W.D. inspecting engineer's report of May last. On 21/3/37 . power to the north feeder was interrupted for a few minutes due to a bird contacting the 11 k.v. circuit at the Pahiatua sub-station. Three additional series street lamps have been installed in the new rnuvenieneo and repairs to the >ur es circuit have been run. several overhauled at Mangamutu. A loose 3.3 k.v. cable had .o he re-strained and rebound on this section and this necessitated a short shut-down from 12.40 to 1.50 p.m. on 19/3/37 to enable this to be done In order to c-ope with the increased , load a hank of ti ansformers was replaced in the Rongo area.. The lasc nnccnii'. .-ted house in the Eketahuna Borough was connected during tho month. Several radio interference -complaints by the P. and T. Departure nt were* rectified Since the completion of the Atea extension the lines staff has been engaged on tho Ting feed to Pahiatua. Annual stocktaking in both areas has completed "the activities for the month.
