TWO HUSKY WRESTLERS.
MEET AT DARREViRKE. | NKXT SATU HD AY .XiGHT. New Zealanders have shown that they like their wrestlers to be big, last, and aggressive, and it was to meet this demand that the Dominion Union imported “Wee Willie” Davies, the hug© Virginian, who is to be “Dotty” Blomfield’s opponent in the professional heavyweight match at Dannevirke on Saturday, October 3rd. Distributed over a frame 6ft. Gin. in height, Davis has 183 stone of wrestling brawn, and he is so well developed that his size is apt to be deceptive, particularly when he is matched with another big wrestler such as Blomfield. Another thing which makes Davis’s size hard to appreciate is the speed with which lie moves ; there is certainly nothing sluggish about him when lie sets to work in the ring. As a wrestler he proved his quality in amateur competitions while a university student and consequently was able to turn professional with success as soon as he left college. Apart from the variations necessitated by the change of rules Davis continued to use straight-forward wrestling until he found it expedient to follow the lead of obstreperous opponents with whom he clashed, much to the discomfiture of the opposition. Davis adapted himself to the rougher style so well that he has became famous as a wrestling “bad man” and his sensational "performances made him a great drawing card. He can always be relied upon to give the public plenty of thrills, particularly when up against a man of Blomfield’s style. Those who hope for thrilling amateur preliminaries should not he disappointed, for the following list of matchings will show that classy local performers are to appear. The opponents are Wanganui lads. The matchings are: J. Warrington (8.1) v. J. Vernon (8.1) ; H, Thorstensen (9.2) v. J. N-orthover (9.4) ; C. Craven (12.10) v. P. Wi Wi (12.7): O. Herrington (10.12) v. C Marshall (11.4).
