MAORI FEDERATION.
At a largely attended meeting of Te Akarana Maori Association on Monday the recent conference on Native affairs in Wellington was discussed (reports a correspondent). Following that conference a number of Maori delegates met at Manuevirke to consider means of coordinating Maori opinion with a •view to creating a representative body which could co-operate with the Government in schemes of reform which concern the Maori race. It was resolved .to form a Maori and pakeha federation, to be composed of those * who h the true interests of the Maori people at heart, and to issue invitations to representatives for a preliminary conference to be held-at Rotorua in the historic meeting-house, Tama te Kapua. Te Akarana .Maori As-* s delation has been' invited to send delegates, and at Monday’s meeting it was decided that in view of the urgency of the problems needing discussion by united , Maori opinion, the association . would be represented by the honorary secretary. Mr George Graham, ann Mr R. Kawharu. The conference will commence on October 1 and will last for two days. .
