M.P. ASSAULTED.
MAORI FOOTBALLER IN TROUBLE.
Electric Telegraph—Press Association HAYY ERA. Septeml>er 26. As a. sequel to an assault on Air H. G. Dickie, M.P., in the Welling-ton-New Plymouth express on June 24. fines totalling £6 10s 6d, with witnesses’ expenses £1 10s, were imposed <m Alanny Down, a weli-knewn representative footballer in Rangitikei in the Hawera Court. The line included £1 10s 6d compensation to Air Dickie for damage to liis hat. Default was fixed at a month’s imprisonment. Down was allowed a month to pay. The incident occurred at Aramoho railway station when a first-class carriage was invaded by members of the Wanganui Alaori Rugby team, who were journeying to Waitara to participate in the celebrations ccmmemorating the unveiling of the memorial to the late Sir Alan; Pomare. Down, who was a member ot the team, struck Air Dickie a blow in the face, the result being si eh as to cause the latter to be unable to eat meals in comfort for a week, as he explained to the magistrate.
