CONVERTED CAR.

POLICE IN HOT PURSUIT. Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. The story of two youths in a converted motor-car being chased by tlm police early on the morning oi August 31 was told at the Police Court to-day. One boy is to be dealt with in the Children’s Court. The other, William Joseph Mirko, aged 17, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully converting two cars stealing a rug and handbag, being in possession of a revolver, and inciting the other youth to commit an offence by attempting to discharge a firearm at Detective Brady. The evidence showed that police in a patrol c ar observed the erratic course of a car passing the Newton police station and gave chase. The speed was terrific. At Avondale one of the occupants of the pursued car presented a revolver at the police but no shots were fired. The car pulled up off the metal, the two youths jumped the fence, and iri an attempt to make them step the police fired three shots. Later Mirko was found at Victoria road and subsequently his compan,xon was found at his home. Tho police said that the accused had admitted entering a nursing home the same night. A nurse sat up in bed and screamed and the youth beat a hasty retreat. After hearing the plea by counsel and questioning the probation officer the Magistrate (Air. Hunt) decided to place the accused on probation for three years. He said that if the accused gave trouble he would .get two or three years’ im prisonmont.
