TOLL OF THE ROAD.

BURST TYRE CAUSES SMASH. I TWO KILLED; TWO INJURED. Electric'Telegraph—Pri ss Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two men were killed and two were injured in a motor accident which occurred on the Main South road about a mile north of Ohinewai at 11 p.m. yesterday. The victims were: George Blank, aged 46, labourer, of Papakuia. Edgar Neville Moxsom, aged 32, labourer, married, of Ponsonby. Keith Robert Bremner, aged 45, lorry driver, a widower, of Drury, suffered severe concussion and bruises. His condition is fairly serious. Hugh Prince, aged 50, labourer and widower, of Te Kawa, sustained a cut hand and shock. His condition is not serious. The four men, who were employed by W. S. Gooseman and Company, road contractors at Te Kawa, near Te Awamutu, were travelling in a three-seater roadster which was being driven to Auckland by Bremner. They were all in one seat; Prince sitting on Moxsom’s knee. Torrential rain was falling at the time and as the car approached a bend in the road, the left hand front tyre blew out. The vehicle left the roadway and proceeded for 150 feet along the side of the road and fell into a depression four feet deep. Then it turned completely round and capsized. All the occupants were pinned under the car but Prince managed to work himself free and call for help. Blank and Moxsom had their necks broken and died simultaneously. Passing motorists heard Prince’s cries and the car was righted and the occupants extricated. Dr. Jameson, of Huntly, and the police were called out and the bodies removed to Huntly. Bremner was taken in an ambulance to the Waikato hospital but Prince did not require hospital treatment.
