MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
YESTERDAY’S SITTING. YOUNG MAN’S. LAPSE. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held in Pahiatua yesterday before Mr J. Logan Stout, S.M. The police took action again.st Melville G. Galbraith, for theft of a motor tyre tube and rim valued at Cl 10s, the property of J. W. Swanney. Galbraith appeared in Court and pleaded guilty, but could offer no explanation to the Bench lea* his action. In view of it being Galbraith’s first appearance before the Court the Magistrate? decided to deal leniently with him and convicted him with an order to come up for sentence within six months if called upon, also making an order for repayment of the stolen property within one month. NO LIGHTS AT NIGHT.
A motor-cyclist, named Mate Stevens, who did not. appear, was proceeded against for riding a motorcycle after dark without having a headlight, being fined 10s with 10s costs. On a second charge of having no tail light he was fined a similar amount with like costa.
Clarence Melville Turfrey was apprehended on May 20th for riding a cycle after dark in Main Street, Pahiatua, and as a result was convicted and fined 10s with 10s costs. Constable Houston remarked to the Bench that defendant who did not appear to answer the charge, was very cheeky when interrogated concerning the offence.
