BREACH OF DAIRY REGULATIONS.
FACTORY MANAGER FINED. Electric Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI, This DayProceedings were instituted under the Dairy Regulations before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., wherein John Richard Yeale, manager of the Oroua- Downs dairy factory was charged with, sending or allowing to be sent to the Castlecliffe grading stores crates of cheese with mark or statement which was false, or was reasonably capable of bearing false interpretation.
There were three similar charges also three against the company that were later withdrawn at the request of the Crown Prosecutor (Mr N. R. Bain) who- stated that the directors had no knowledge of the offences. Mr Bain said there were 55 second grade cheeses manufactured and sent to the stores, but 46 were sorted out witii the assistance of defendant. Nine were not accounted for, and bad gone liome. A second grade cheese bad been put in each crate witii a firstdepartment. It was alleged that this was done deliberate! v and bis Department viewed the situation seriously. for if the matter bad not been discovered at this end. the effect of people- buying cheese at Home l could lie reaclilv seen Mr A. said there bad been no personal gain to Yeale and what he did was solely out of zeal.
Mr Salmon said that whatever the motives of defendant may have been, the fact remains that the publication of the fact that lie had broken the regulations might do incalculable barm to the deify industry. He must impose a penalty that would deter others from breaking the regulations and would impose a fine of £5 <-n each charge, with costs id. and solicitor's lees £3 3s.
