STOCK POSITION SOUND. MONTHLY MARKET REPORT. Market fluctuations: During the month the following cabled market reports were received from London office. Salted butter; January 3rd, 98s to 100 s ; January 7th, 98s to IOOs ; January lOth, 94s to 96s ; January 14tli. 90s to 93s ; January 17th, 91s to 92s ; January 31st, 93s to 945. White cheese: January 3rd, 57s to 58s; January 7th, 57s to 57s 6d; January 10th, 55s 6d to 565; January 14th, 54s to 54s 6d ; January 17tli, 53s 6d to 545; January 24th. 52s to 52s 6d; January 31st, 535. Coloured cheese: January 3rd, 61s 6d to 62s ; January 7th, 61s to 62s ; January 10th, 59s to 60s; January 14th, 58s to 59s ; January 17tli, 57s to 58s ; January 24th, sos to 55s 6d ; January 31st, *s7s to 57s 6d. Following a somewhat sensational /rise during the early part o-f the month the butter market slackened off again, • but has maintained a higher level than for December. The present position seems quite good, and . it would appear unlikely that the market will take a downward move during the coining month. The stock position is sound. The stocks of New Zealand butter in the United Kingdom at date are 4082 tons, as against 5644 tons at the same date last year, when the market was 87s to 90s. Stocks increased during the month by 26'0 tons. The estimated stocks of all butters in the United Kingdom at date are 9372 tons, as against 11,758 tons at the same date last year, which is a decrease of 2386 tons.

The arrivals of New Zealand butter in the United Kingdom during February will be 521.309 boxes, as against 601,958 boxes for February, 1935, a decrease of 83,520 boxes. The approximate arrivals for March will bo 522,000 Boxes, as against 461,042 boxes for March. 1935, an increase of 60.958 boxes.

The cheese market for no apparent reason has' slipped back somewhat. The stock position is sound, and we cannot foresee any further drop taMng place in the near future. The stocks of New Zealand cheese iji_ the United Kingdom at date are 57,717 crates, as against 94,813 crates at the same date last year, when the market was 47s to 6d for white, and 46s 6d to 47s for coloured. Stocks increased during the month by 10,161 orates. The arrivals of New Zealand cheese in the? United Kingdom during February will be 74,466 crates of white and 38,203 crates of coloured, making a total of 112,669 crates, as against 159.948 crates for February, 1935, a decrease of 47,279 crates. The approximate arrivals for March will_ ho 118,454 crates, as against 107,478 crates for March, 1935, an increase of 10,976 crates. White and coloured cheese: The gradings for the whole of New Zealand were as follows; White. Coloured. Statistics: The shipments of butter from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for August to December inclusive, were 58,629 tons, as against 56.125 tons for the same period last season, an increase of 2504 tons. Australia shipped 42,422 tons, as against 47,434 tons, a decrease of 5012 tons. Taking the two countries together the decrease is 2508 tons. The total shipments to the United Kingdom from New Zealand and Australia for December are down 1486 tons, as compared with December, 1934, which must have a slight effect on the position in the immediate future. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom from all sources for the calendar year, 1935, were 480.730 tons, as against 485.141 tons for 1934, a decrease of 4411 tons. The shipments of cheese from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for August to December inclusive, were 32,4)39 tons, as against 37,582 tons for the same period last season, a decrease of 5113 tons. 'Phe total imports of cheese into the United Kingdom from all sources for the calendar year 1935 were 136,149 tons, as against 149.429 tons for 1934, a de< rease of 13,280 tons.
