ORGANISATION WINS OUT. STRIKERS GAMBLED AND LOST. (Received 10 a.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegra ph —< ;opv right. LONDON, February 6. The Smithfield strike appears to be collapsing and the men are expected to resume work at the weekend. They were beaten by the swift organisation of transport, and the temporary meat depots at the railway stations, docks and secret points in the suburbs. The strikers sought the help of dockers and railway workers, who refused as their union leaders’ were opprosed to- a strike. The whole of the four hundred tons of meat arriving at Smithfield since the strike broke out was sold yesterday under piolice protection. Prices for all supplies slightly advanced in the suburban markets. The strikers admit they gambled on winning in four days, and lost because the butchers easily obtained alternative -applies.
